You are looking at very comfortable 2016 Highland Ridge Light 319RLS 5th Wheel by Open Road. It has a spacious living room with two large slide-outs, and a cozy fireplace under the big-screen TV. It has a very functional kitchen with tons of storage. The bedroom slide out gives you a large closet, room to walk around the bed, and access to everything without having to slide out the bedroom slide if you just want to grab your jacket on the go. The bathroom has plenty of space, a nice corner shower, and a closet with washer/dryer hookups.
One of the biggest perks of this 5th wheel is the 5500w Onan LP generator. It was a $7,000 add-on and can be turned on or off without leaving the comfort of the 5th wheel. It has plenty of power to run the microwave, A/C, and a hair dryer all at the same time.
This trailer includes everything you need to leave our office and head to the campground, except cooking utensils, food, and your clothes. It is a full kit with power cables and adapters so you can plug into anything, hoses, brand new sewer hoses, leveling kit, and everything you need to be comfortable. I’m even throwing in some firewood.
The gross weight (GVWR) of this trailer is right around 10,000 lbs, making it easy to tow with a 3/4 ton truck, and possible to tow with some half-ton models. It also keeps you under the class A drivers license requirement behind most 1-ton dually trucks. In Texas, 26,000+ lbs combined GVWR requires a Class A or B driver’s license in Texas, even for RVs. I have a 1-ton RAM with a single rear wheel and it would require a Class A license on most 5th wheels of this size - that is part of why I bought this one
This trailer works with both gooseneck and 5th-wheel hitches. It has a special mount from the factory that allows the kingpin to be replaced with a gooseneck connector. Both connectors are included.
Here’s a list of highlights for the amenities:
Exterior/Mechanical: There is a huge storage compartment under the front of this trailer, and several little ones. It has a very well setup water/sewer/power station that makes it easy to keep everything clean and tidy. There are a few little compartments for those things you want quick easy access to as well. The front legs are powered and drop at the push of a button. The rear stabilizers work the same way. All 4 corners have stabilizer bars so you don’t get the typical rocking when you walk around inside.
Living Room: The sofa makes a nice bed that, as far as we can tell, hasn’t ever been used. The two recliners are comfy and in great shape. There is ample storage behind the TV and above the sofas. There is a King antenna that gives you great reception of digital over-the-air channels (we get about 40 of them at McKinney Falls State Park in Austin).
Kitchen: The kitchen has a big pantry, gas/electric fridge, 3 burner range with an oven, microwave, double sink, and plenty of counter space. There is an island with storage mounted on casters so you can move it around (or strap it in for driving). There is a Fantastic Fan in the kitchen as well as a vent fan over the stove.
Bedroom: The queen sized bed has storage underneath. The mattress that comes with these isn’t great, so we bought a Tempur-Pedic Cloud Luxe mattress (about $3,500). It is still as-new. It comes with a new sheet set, comforter, pillows, and towels. The headboard shelves have a charging station with USB ports for your phone. There’s great storage in the bedroom closet with drawers, shelves, and plenty of hanging space (with hanger-holders so they don’t slide around while you drive). There is a Fantastic Fan above the bed to make a breeze if you opt to forego the A/C.
Bathroom: The bathroom has a nice medicine cabinet, storage under the sink, and a large cabinet with removable shelves. The large cabinet has washer/dryer hookups. There is a fully functional toilet that sits at a normal toilet height. The walk-in corner shower has a shower head on a hose that lets you cut off the water without losing the temperature setting to make it easy to save water. There is a Fantastic Fan in the bathroom, too.
My wife and I grew up traveling in RVs and wanted to take a stab at it ourselves. We bought the trailer about a year ago and outfitted it for our travels. We spent a week in Santa Fe, NM last spring, and two weeks touring the southeast last summer, along with a few weekends here and there. Its a really nice trailer but it is time for someone else to enjoy it. It has never been smoked in and has no mildew/mold issues. We made sure everything is in excellent working order before we posted it for sale.
